American Rye Whiskey

In pre-Prohibition times, American rye whiskey was the most popular style of whiskey in the country, and it was used to great effect in a number of classic cocktails such as the Sazerac and the Manhattan. The style died out during the Prohibition years, but has had a recent resurgence thanks to the renaissance of the cocktail industry, as well as the fact that rye is a superb whiskey, offering up an oily, spicy flavour.
